Library Policies

Official policies of the New River Public Library Cooperative.

This page contains the official library policies of the New River Public Library Cooperative and its member libraries, approved by the Governing Board.

Resource Policy

The Resource Policy governs how the Cooperative and its member libraries select, acquire, maintain, and withdraw library materials and electronic resources. It covers all collection formats including print, audio-visual, electronic databases, and internet access.

Computer Use Policy

Computers provided by the Cooperative to member libraries may be used for accessing the Internet and other information, reference and library resources. Misuse of library computers may result in loss of computer privileges and possible prosecution.

Internet Access Policy

The Cooperative provides filtered Internet access on all computers at all member libraries through the Florida Information Resource Network (FIRN). Unfiltered access is available upon request from the library director or designee.

Internet Safety Policy

This policy addresses the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) and governs responsible use of library computers and Internet resources by all patrons and staff.

Intellectual Freedom

New River Public Library Cooperative and its member libraries promote and defend the principles of intellectual freedom based on the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. The libraries do not condone, condemn, or endorse opinions and views expressed in provided resources. The Cooperative adopts the American Library Association Library Bill of Rights and the ALA Code of Ethics.

Patron Concern Process

Any patron may question resources in the library collection. Staff will make every effort to resolve concerns through discussion. If unresolved, patrons may submit a written “Library Patron’s Opinion of Library Resources” form. The library director will review all submissions and respond in writing. The Governing Board has final authority on all collection questions.
